You’ve decided to organize a game day/night with your family and friends. Most of the time there will be a few people that don’t show up or can’t make it, but are you prepared in case all of the people you invite show up? Snacks? Check! Drinks? Check! Games? You have plenty of two and four player board games in your closet. But what about fun six (or more) player games? Or maybe you’d like to get a new game to try out with your group, but what game do you get? You only want the best board games for 6 players, don’t you?

There are tons of games out there and taking time to research the best games before you buy them takes up a lot of time. That’s why I have done all the hard work for you! I have gone through and picked out the best of the best for you.

It was a lot of fun to remember some of the games that I had forgotten about when I put together this list of the best board games for 6 players! I hope this list helps you out so that you can put on an epic game night!

Quick Peeks

Don’t have a lot of time? Here are the top picks!

Best Overall

This is my top pick for the best board game for 6 players.

Twilight Imperium Fourth Edition

3-6 Players
Play Time: 4-8 hours
Age: 14+

If I had to describe this game in one word, it would have to be “epic”! The amount of strategy and detail and options are all beyond measure. The object of this game is to get 10 victory points to win, but that is not as simple as it sounds!

Ok, where to start…First of all you have to choose one out of seventeen different races each with their own special ability, like the wormhole-hopping Ghosts of Creuss or the Emiratates of Hacan, masters of trade.

No two playthroughs are ever the same since the board is also randomly created using board tiles. They feature many different objects such as lush new planets and supernovas to asteroid fields and gravity rifts.

Gain your victory points by a number of different ways. Form trade negotiations, claim new planets, declare war, complete objectives, and even pass laws while in pursuit of your points.

A word of advise though, this game is not for beginners! it typically has a playtime of four to eight hours, and can take a bit to learn he rules. So make sure you’ve got the time set aside to play this massively epic game!

Once you get your friends and family to sit down and play this, they will talk about it for ages! It plays 3 to 6 players.

Best Budget Under $15

Strapped for cash? Want the best board games for 6 players at the cheapest price? I’ve got you covered!

Clue

2-6 Players
Play Time: 40 minutes
Age: 8+

The game of Clue is a classic that is so fun to play. It is a murder mystery game in which you must figure out where the murder happened, what weapon was used, and who is the killer. This game is a blast with 6 players!

At the start of the game 3 cards (a suspect, weapon, and location) are secretly selected and placed inside an envelope. The remaining cards are dealt to all the players. On your turn you roll the die and start moving to one of the locations on the board. When your in the room you can make ask for information about a suspect, weapon and the room your in. The next player then shows ONE of the cards with that info on them. If they don’t have one then the next player would show a card, and so on. Once you have deduced who the real killer, weapon, and location is you may make an official guess and secretly look in the envelope to see if you were right. If you were, then you win and if not then your out of the game.

This game as been around for a long time. I’ve always had fun playing the different versions that has been made. This version has the new character Dr. Orcid.

Charades for Kids

3-6 Players
Play Time: 30 minutes
Age: 4+

My children have really had a lot of fun with this game and its a big hit at parties! Even younger kids can get involved as the cards have different skill levels on them depending on their age. Its easy for older kids to play right along with the younger ones!

Each card has 3 skill levels of words. The easiest level including a picture in case the child can’t read yet.

You play by taking a card and acting it out. You can use sounds, but no words. The next player gets to take one guess at what they think it is. If wrong then the next person guesses, and it keeps going around until someone gets it correct. The person who answered correctly gets the card, and you collect 3 cards to win.

Laughs are bound to happen when playing this game, and its so fun to watch our children play this!

Best Runner Ups

Here are the runner ups that are at the top of my list of the best board games for 6 players.

Disney Villainous

2-6 Players
Play Time: 50 minutes
Age: 10+

I would HIGHLY recommend this game if you have not played it before and is easily one of the best games I have played in a while! Villainous has also won the “Game of the Year” award for 2019 TOTY awards. Disney Villainous is quickly becoming one of the best board games for 6 players. Its a newer board game that lets you take control of an iconic Disney villain as you try to complete your evil goals!

In this unique game, each villain has their own special game board with their own specific objectives to win the game. You can choose from Capt. Hook, Maleficent, Ursula, Prince John, Jafar, and the Queen of Hearts. Each villian also has unique abilities that only they can use.

You start your turn by drawing four cards and moving your character to the space you want. Depending on the space you land on, you have several actions you can take. It could be gathering power to cast your abilities, playing a card from your hand, forcing another villain to draw a fate card, vanquishing a hero, and many more. If you choose, you can thwart your opponents progress by making them draw a card from their fate pile which will hinder their progress. The first player to complete their goals is the winner.

This game is so much fun to play when your in the mood to be a villain, and it also has several expansion packs that can be purchased separately.

Carcassonne Big Box Edition (Base Game & 11 Expansions)

2-6 Players
Play Time: 35 minutes
Age: 7+

Carcassonne is a great game by itself, but when you add the option to play with any or all of these 11 expansions then you’ve got a board game that will provide so much variety each and every time you play it!

You start off with just one tile for the game board and each turn another tile is added and placed around the tiles already shown to create the landscape (fields, roads, cities, or monasteries). You can place your token called a Meeple down on the tile you just added to try and score points as the landscape gets built.

Also, in addition to the base game, you get 11 expansion sets in this to play around with as well! “Inns & Cathedrals”, “Traders & Builders”, “The Abbot”, “The River”, “The Flying Machines”, “The Ferries”, “The Messengers”, “The Gold Mines”, “Mage & Witch”, “The Robbers”, and “The Crop Circles”. Endless variety to play around with and well worth it!

This video mentions it is 2-5 players, however this big box version of the game supports 2-6 players!

Off Topic

2-10 Players
Play Time: 30-90 minutes
Age: 17+

This is such a fun party game! It is made for adults, as some of the topics are adult oriented.

Everyone chooses the same topic board to start and a die is rolled to choose a letter you must use. The two minute timer is then flipped and you must answer all the questions on your whiteboard using the rolled letter. When the timer is done then the fun starts!

If two people answered the same thing, then neither one gets a point. If your answer isn’t really the best fit then you’d better be ready to defend your answer and persuade everyone, as your peers are the judges as well!

This game has always been a big hit at my game nights, and has brought many laughs!

Best Under $30

Here are some of the best games under $30

Monopoly: Pixar

2-6 Players
Play Time: 90 minutes
Age: 8+

It’s easy to get bored playing the normal version of Monopoly as it just keeps dragging on, however when I tried he Pixar version it added so much flavor and magic back into the game that I was actually looking forward to playing it again! If your a fan of Pixar movies at all then you will love this Monopoly game!

Everything about this game is Pixar themed! Land on and purchase properties such as Nemo’s Anemone from Finding Nemo, and Porto Corsa from Cars 2. The normal houses and hotels that you build on your properties are Cozy Cone Motels and Al’s Toy Barns. Land on Earth Pass or Andy’s Toy Chest spaces for fun Pixar themed cards. And choose your movie themed tokens like the Pizza Planet Truck from Toy Story, Carl’s House from Up, and the iconic Pixar Ball and Lamp.

Pixar fans of all ages will love playing this version of Monopoly!

Catan: 5-6 Player Extension

5-6 Players
Play Time: 1-2 hours
Age: 10+

Catan has been one of my favorite games and is easily one of the best board games for 6 players. This is the 5-6 expansion pack for the base game of Catan. There are also numerous expansions for this game that add all kinds of variety to the base game of Catan for many different winning strategies! If you would like to know more about the different Catan expansions, check out my post here. In this game expansion, it adds the ability to play with 5-6 players instead of just 4 players in the base game.

In Catan you build settlements and collect resources, with the objective of settling in the land of Catan and earning victory points. The board is different every time you play so no two games are the same! As you collect resources you will be able to build roads and more settlements. Be careful when a seven on the dice is rolled though as the robber could start stealing your resources. Be the first player to earn 10 victory points and you will be the winner.

Family and friends alike will love playing this game!

It’s In The Bag!

4-99 Players
Play Time: 20-45 minutes
Age: 10+

This game is so much fun to play with your friends! You can play this game with as many players as you want.

You will split up into two teams and try to get your team to guess the cards you pull out of the bag as quick as you can until your timer runs out. During the first round you describe the card, the second round you can only use one word, and on the third round you must act out the card. The team with the most points at the end wins.

Best Under $60

If you have a bit of extra money, then here are some of the best games under $60 that you can get for 6 players!

RISK 60th Anniversary Edition

2-6 Players
Play Time: 2 hours
Age: 8+

This version of Risk is well worth the purchase! If you don’t currently have the game of Risk then I would highly suggest you grabbing the 60th anniversary edition!

First of all, I must say that the artwork in this version of the game is superb! It gives the game a real antiquely look and feel. The map and cards are all printed looking like aged maps and documents that make them look amazing! A game guide is included describing 4 other ways to play this game which really mixes things up.

Try to achieve global dominance through alliances, betrayals, and surprise attacks. This would most definitely be a big hit for your game nights.

7 Wonders

2-7 Players
Play Time: 30 minutes
Age: 10+

7 Wonders is a great strategy game where you to try to build the best ancient city in the world. As the leader of your city you will gather resources, trade with neighboring cities, and build military might while working towards your long term goals. There are 3 ages in this game and at the end of each age you add up your military might and compare it with your neighboring cities. At the end of the third age you gain points based on your military scores and on everything else you’ve managed to build in your city.

Plunder A Pirate’s Life

2-6 Players
Play Time: 40-120 minutes
Age: 10+

Are you ready to talk like a pirate?! Arrrr! Plunder: A Pirate’s Life puts you into the shoes (or peg legs) of a pirate as you travel around the ocean causing havoc and plundering islands.

The board comes in interchangeable sections and every time you play it will look different. Each player will use little pirate ships to sail around the ocean. The resources you will be collecting as you play are wood, old, iron, and rum. Lots of options when you are playing, will you claim an island for its resources or attack another ship? If your ship is heavily armed, by buying extra cannons, you can just threaten your opponents into giving you free resources (it is a pirate game after all).

Will you try to make it to the X mark to get treasure, or upgrade your ship (or even buy another ship). As you play you also need to keep an eye on the moving storm as it can hinder your progress as it causes problems!

I played this game the other day with a few friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to playing it again!

Best Family Board Games for 6 Players

Do you need some board games for your family that are for 6 players? This is a few of the best family games.

Headbanz

3-10 Players
Play Time: 60-minutes
Age: 8+

Headbanz is a popular board game for families! My children always love playing this game and its super easy to play! You each have a band on your head and place a card on it without looking and on your turn you flip over a 1 minute timer. You then ask the other players yes or no questions about your card until you think you know what it is. If you make a guess and your wrong, then your turn immediately ends. If you guessed right then you change cards and put another card in its place and keep going until your out of time. You also get a token to place on your band. Keep taking turns until someone wins by collecting 3 tokens.

Apples to Apples

4-10 Players
Play Time: 30 minutes
Age: 12+

We play this game sometimes when I visit my parents, and my kids and parents both loves it! It is great fun that always gets everyone laughing! This game is also incredible easy to learn and play too!

The game is started by choosing the starting judge and dealing out 7 red cards to each person. These cards all contain a noun. The judge then places a green card (adjective) down and each of the other players choose one of their red cards that best fit he green card. After everyone has placed down a card the judge picks their favorite match and the card is awarded to the person that was chosen.

The next person is the judge now and play continues as long as you want it to. At the end you add up the cards you’ve won and the most is the winner!

Some combinations of cards will have you bust out laughing! Its always a guaranteed fun time when we play this!

Dixit

3-8 Players
Play Time: 30 minutes
Age: 8+

Dixit is a storytelling game that really focuses on your creativity. The main component of this game is the amazingly creative deck of image cards. The cards are all dreamlike illustrations that depicts fantasy situations. The artwork on these cards are beautiful.

Each turn a player will secretly choose a card from their hand and give a clue about the picture. It could be a single word or a phrase, but the more creative the better. Then you place your card face down on the table. Everyone else selects a card from their own deck that best matches your clue and places it with your card face down on the table. The cards are then shuffled and flipped over. Voting begins with everyone trying to guess your card by placing tiles on the card that they choose.

You will only receive points if you get at least one person that guesses your card, however if everyone votes for your card you will not receive any points. Then the players that voted correctly get points and anyone else’s card that received votes get a point as well.

So as you can see, you don’t want your clue to be too obvious otherwise everyone will vote for your card. But on the other hand you don’t want your clue to be too hard.

This is always a hit with my kids when we decide to get it out and play!

Tsuro

2-8 Players
Play Time: 15-20 minutes
Age: 8+

This is such an interesting game that is fairly unique. A maze of paths is created in this game as you attempt to make your opponents follow a path off the board while you keep your token on the board. Its really easy to learn the rules, and I had a lot of fun playing it!

The game starts with the deck of tiles face down after they have been shuffled. Each player puts their token on the edge of the board at whatever starting spot they want, and everyone is dealt 3 tiles. The first player puts one of there tiles in front of their token forming a path. The object is to keep your token on the board for as long as possible without getting led off the board. As each player takes their turns eventually the tiles will connect to your opponents. If it does, then you first move your token to the edge of your path and then move their token along the path you created (hoping that it leads them off the board).

If two tokens meet on the same path then both of them are eliminated. The last person left on the board is the winner!

Best Cooperative Board Games for 6 Players

Love working together in board games? Here is a few 6 player board games for anyone wanting to play cooperatively.

Arkham Horror 3rd Edition

1-8 Players
Play Time: 2-4 hours
Age: 14+

Inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, this board game is horrifyingly fun! You and up to 5 others choose one of twelve unique investigators each with their own special abilities, items, and backstory to fight against the Ancient Ones that lurk in the emptiness beyond space and time. You will work together to explore the streets of Arkham while stopping occult rituals and gathering clues and items to stop the Ancient Ones from destroying our world. With 12 different investigators and branching narrative paths, each time you play the game will be different.

This is such a fun game if you are fans of this type of genre and its a blast to actually play with and help your friends rather than play against them.

Mysterium

2-7 Players
Play Time: 42 minutes
Age: 10+

If you love playing the game of Clue but are getting a bit bored with it and want to kick it up a notch, then this cooperative murder mystery game is exactly what you want! One of the players is the ghost and is unable to speak or communicate with everyone else. It is up to the rest of the team to figure out who killed them, in what location, and with what weapon before the night is over by receiving visions from the ghost as clues.

Every player will have a different combination of killer/location/weapon that they have to guess that only the ghost can see. Each turn the ghost collects 7 vision cards which contains a dream like picture (similar to the game Dixit but with a darker and more complex theme). The ghost then passes out one vision card to each player trying to clue them into who killed them.

Once all the players have received their vision card a 2 minute timer is flipped over and they may discus their thoughts on what everyone’s vision may mean and who each suspect is. You must place your token on a suspect before the 2 minute timer is up and if you have guessed correctly you get to move on to the next level and give your vision cards back to the ghost (first you must guess the suspect then the location, and finally the weapon). If wrong then keep your vision card and try again next turn.

Each turn moves a clock hand 1 hour, and the ghost gets to add however many vision cards back to their hand to equal seven. If everyone makes it to the end before 7 hours passed on the clock then its time for the final guess. Each players correct combo is laid on the table and the ghost chooses a vision card for the correct suspect, location, and weapon. The players must then choose one of the combo sets based on the “shared vision” and if the majority of the players are correct then everyone wins, but if not then everyone loses.

This game may seem a bit complicated, but its actually not once you start to understand it and it is a complete blast! I absolutely love playing this game with my family and friends!

This game is loads of fun with 6-8 players! You form two teams and have 25 cards on the table. Each card has a blue agent or red agent or an assassin or an innocent bystander, and on the other side is random words. Each team has a spymaster that knows where their agents are and must give a one word clue that corresponds to as many of the correct agents as possible. The other teammates then guess a word to see if they have flipped over the correct agents and may keep guessing if they are right and feel like the clue may have meant more than one card. First team to uncover all of their agents wins, but be careful of the assassin, if he is flipped then you lose!
